As I sit here on CQ listening to SFC Poulten play some Rage Against the Machine, I can’t help but wander, “where is there cell phone signal?” and “why can’t I sign on to Yahoo Messenger?” Oh well, Christmas leave is coming up soon and I can’t wait!  I love watching the expression on my family’s face (especially Bradley’s) when they open their gifts.  Anyway, the reason I’m not able to maintain a consistent line of communication with my family and friends back home is because there is no signal here.  Believe me it’s not because I’m not trying, I’ve wandered the halls of our building day and night searching for the best place to make my calls, or at least send my test messages out (normally not realizing they didn’t send until hours later when I see them in my outbox).  Before I sign off for the night I’d like to thank Gene and Sherry (not sure on the spelling) in Birmingham, Alabama for the wonderful dinner at Kobe Japanese Cuisine.  SSG Daley, SGT Fowler, and I were eating, enjoying our last night of personal freedom in Alabama and after talking with the slightly older couple, who were both former Navy officers, asked for our checks.  We hadn’t realized that they had already told the waitress to bring them all of our checks and paid for it…sneaky, sneaky.  Well, that is it for me, my time is up, hopefully next time I write I’ll have something more exciting to share.

  1. I know what you mean about not getting to communicate with your family! When I was overseas the internet had not been invented. No cell phones. I had to go to a hotel (in Germany) and put in a call to a overseas operator and then wait from 30 min to several hours for the call to be placed. At least we could drink beer while we waited. Mail call was the one bright spot of the day! Mrs Tull mailed a letter a day to me and I tried to do likewise. I still have the letters. Perhaps I’ll have them published and embarrass my children!

Mr. Tull, was that back in the day when you guys rode dinosaurs into battle and used clubs instead of rifles? Ha ha just kidding. I am thankful for the speed of commnication, its just like i said though, theres a weak signal for anything modern. Definately do all you can to embarass your children, I know I am going to embarass mine whenever i get the chance.

  5. Wazzup man? How have things been? It sucks that you can’t get any signal where you are. Next time that you come back home you should hit me up. We can go have some drinks and shoot the shit. I hope that you make it back in one piece as well. Don’t let one of those m-f’rs f#@& your day up. Peace out.

  6. Actually, The technology you’all have now makes the army of 1970-73 look like the stone age! One thing has not changed and that is the great friends and companions you acquire in the Army. You will be so proud of your service through the years to come. And, you have better leaders in your unit than we had.
    Keep safe,
    Del Tull

Now that we are here alone (meaning there isn’t a hundred MP’s in the same building with us) the internet seems to be moving faster. Of course, that’s all over tomorrow when they return. Anyway, Oreo, I will definetely hit you up…in about 7 months haha good luck with the kid on the way, I hope all goes well for you and Mary. Mr. Tull, I am well aware of the good leadership in this unit, my last deployment I was not so lucky lol. To all I will be safe, I will keep in contact, and I will call when I can.
